Travellers at San Diego International Airport can now order shopping and food via mobile app and have their purchases delivered directly to them.
Developed by Californian start-up AtYourGate and GOLO, a mobile ordering platform, the app is claimed to be the first of its kind to enable purchases from any of the participating outlets — such as a sandwich, salad, snack or gift — to be delivered directly to the gate or to any convenient location airport-wide.
Known as AtYourGate powered by GOLO, the app includes seven participating restaurants and retail locations at launch, with another 25 expected to join before the end of 2018.
GOLO, part of the Paysafe Group, said its platform offers users an intuitive and secure mobile shopping experience and gives participating concession operators the tools to provide seamless order processing and delivery.
As well as passengers travelling through the airport, the app can be used by airport employees and flight crew.
The new service addresses “a real need for both airport consumers and retailers,” said P.J. Mastracchio, founder and CEO of AtYourGate.
“Consumers and merchants today expect a frictionless and sophisticated retail experience when making purchases or selling using their mobile technology,” added Jean-François Noël, chief executive of GOLO. “They want to see the products accompanied by visually rich images, in a smooth app where searching is intuitive and there is a secure way to transact. That’s what is offered through the new AtYourGate powered by GOLO app.”
AtYourGate is the first innovation to come out of San Diego International Airport’s Innovation Lab, which brings together companies, innovators and airport executives to create and test new ideas to drive airport innovation and improve the passenger experience.
In the future, the app is planned to be made available to other airports across North America and Europe.
