Chinese tech company Sinocloud Wisdom has developed an automated check-in and baggage drop-off robot featuring Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
The market-ready robot was unveiled at the recent Airport Show in Dubai.
Sinocloud believes that the new robot will accelerate the check-in process and reduce the workload of check-in staff at airports.
Passengers can use the robot to check in and drop their bags off from anywhere in the airport, instead of looking for the check-in desk. All they need to do is to scan their passport, put their bags in the robot, and go straight to the passenger security checkpoint.
If any bag is found to be suspicious, the robot will automatically alert security inspection staff and inform them of the owner’s details that were collected when the passport was scanned.
The robot transports passengers’ bags to the baggage handling area using an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) system to avoid obstacles.
The company also presented an intelligent check-in counter at the Dubai Airport Show, combining various functions including facial recognition, automatic acquisition of baggage weighing information, ad display and intelligent notifications. The counter is designed to reduce workload, as well as improve efficiency, service and airport security.
Sinocloud Wisdom CEO Li Xin said: “Using AI technology, we present our Smart Airport Solution to improve the service of the airport. We keep focusing on optimising customer experience by creating a convenient, non-interference check-in environment.
“Our smart airport equipment helps the airport to adapt to a growing number of passengers, as well as to upgrade their performance.”
