A new marketplace for on-demand transportation and mobility services, developed by HERE Mobility, part of mobile location specialist HERE Technologies, aims to make it easier for people to get around, providing a boost to future intelligent transport systems.
The HERE Open Mobility Marketplace is a software solution which serves as a central hub for supplying and requesting mobility services. It’s described as a ‘one-stop-shop’ aggregating all kinds of intelligent transport systems and services, ranging from air travel, car rental, taxis, trains and buses to ride-sharing and car-sharing — seamlessly connecting supply with demand.
For service providers, the marketplace offers an opportunity to reach new customers. And for consumers, it means greater choice and easier accessibility, HERE Mobility says.
To complement the launch, the company released a beta of The Mobility SDK enabling partners to develop applications connecting directly to the HERE Open Mobility Marketplace with mobility features for managing rides within their own interface.
“Mobility is at the core of our lives, and vital for businesses and consumers in the on-demand economy where standards and expectations have risen,” said Liad Itzhak, vice president and head of HERE Mobility. “HERE Mobility strives to solve a real market need that provides consumers and businesses with true freedom of mobility. Our solutions democratise a fragmented and siloed industry, opening new channels to access the best mobility tools and services available.”
HERE Mobility cites McKinsey research which predicts that the new mobility services market will grow to around $1.5tn (£1.08tn) by 2030, from $150-200bn (£108-144bn) today. Yet high barriers to participate mean that this growing market, with its increased number of consumers, is unreachable for many potential service providers.
“We aim to democratise the mobility ecosystem by building this competitive marketplace and closing the technological gaps among the different players,” HERE Mobility says.
